A question I get asked often is how to add an app to a Facebook page and sometimes what happens when the regular way doesn’t work. With the new timeline there are also some great extra things you can do to customize the look of any app you install.
Step 1 – Find An App
You can first find an app by typing in its name in Facebook’s search box. As you can see it has come up with Binkd Promotion in my search. Click on the app, or the magnifying glass at the side if you want to see more search results.
Step 2 – Installing The App
When you click on the app you are taken to a page where the application owner will have a welcome screen and a link to add the app. This is different, depending on the Facebook application you are installing.
The link is just similar to: http://www.facebook.com/add.php?api_key=facebook_api_for_the_app&pages=1
Step 3 – Adding To A Page
Next you just need to choose the page you want to add the application to.
Note: If your page isn’t there, it means the app is already installed on your page. If you can’t see it on your page then I will show you below how you can re-add the tab.
Step 4 – Re-Adding If It Already Exists
Go to your page. If you can’t see the admin panel at the top, press the Admin Panel button in the top right hand corner of your page.
Then go to Manage > Edit Page.
Go to Apps, then Edit Settings on the application.
Press the add link then press Okay.
Step 5 – Changing the Image and Name of the Tab.
If you want to change the image or name of the tab, follow step 4. When you get into edit settings you will see the required fields you can change. If you just completed step 4, remember you need to press Okay, then edit settings again, to see the new options.
From here you can change the Tab Name and the Tab Image to whatever you want. The image size should be 111 x 74 pixels.
Step 6 – Changing The Facebook App Location
Each application you install is shown in the list of apps just under the cover image to the right. You can only see 3 apps and the rest are hidden under the drop down section. If you want your app to be shown as a priority, press the down arrow next to the apps, then hover over the app and press the edit icon that appears over the top right of the app image. There you have the option to change its position or also a quick way to change its settings.
